殆どの場合、節は枯れた枝の名残で、製材しても、すぐに取れる厄介者です。
しかし、中には生きたまま残り続ける節があります。それを「赤節」(あかふし)といい
水分が抜けずに残っているので、綺麗な赤色の模様が木と一体化しています。
例えば、寿司下駄は節が無いものよりも節が有るものが好まれ、「粋」を演出してくれます。
まな板としても勿論使えますが、小鉢を並べて置いたり、手巻き寿司を並べたりと
和の演出で楽しませてくれそうです。

In most cases, knots are remnants of dead branches, and even if sawn, they are a nuisance that can be easily removed.
